The Golden Delicious Golden Delicious is a large, yellow skinned cultivar and very sweet to the taste. It is prone to bruising and shriveling, so it needs careful handling and storage. It is sweeter than the Granny Smith and is a favorite for salads, apple sauce, and apple butter. Harvested from autumn through winter. The Golden Delicious needs 600 to 700 chill hours, and also needs a Pollinizer. Best grown in Zones 5-9. The Anna Apple is a great pollinizer for the Golden Delicious Apple.
