Fuyu Persimmons  is a native Asian plant that has been in cultivation for many centuries. The tree grows as a multi-trunked or single-stemmed deciduous tree that can get to 25 feet high and wide. It is a lovely ornamental tree with drooping glossy green leaves and branches that give it a flowing, rather tropical look. The leaves offer a nice display in Fall, turning to dramatic shades of yellow, orange and red. Tea can also be made from fresh or dried persimmon leaves. The beautiful orange or reddish fruit in Fall hangs long on the tree to give additional ornamental value. The fruits are classified into two categories: astringent and non-astringent. The non-astringent is as crisp as an apple when ripe. However, astringent varieties must ripen to be very soft before it can be eaten. If not, it will be a very bitter experience for you. But once ripened, the astringent varieties are as sweet or sweeter than non-astringent varieties. The Fuyu is the most popular fresh eating Japanese persimmon in the world. This non-astringent, large, round, flattened fruit has reddish-orange skin when ripe. The tree bears at a young age and is a heavy producer. The fruit is seedless and is excellent for fresh eating or cooking. The Fuyu ripens in November and is as sweet and crisp as an apple. Persimmons do best in areas of moderate Winter temperatures (USDA 6-10), however they may tolerate short periods dipping to 0°F when fully dormant

Q: Can you ship to my state?
A: We can ship throughout the lower 48 United States.

Q: How do you handle cold weather shipping (zones 7 or less)?
A: In the winter months, we are concerned about keeping the trees above freezing in transit to colder states. We include Cold Weather Handling for an extra charge of $10.00 in the 7-or-less zone pricing. This includes special packaging and shipping by Priority Shipping service which is usually 2-3 days from the date we ship. If it is too cold we will hold the package until the following week to try again. Alternatively, you can choose to either delay shipment for up to 30 days or order when the weather is warmer just put that in the order page comments.
